WHAT IS A SOLAR ROOF?

A Solar Roof, also known as a Photovoltaic Roofing System, can unleash the power of the sun and turn your roofing liability into an energy- producing asset. A building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system will reduce your energy costs and your reliance on the utility grid while providing you with a lightweight, high performance roofing system.

The result is a photovoltaic roofing system that protects the building interior from the elements while generating power for its electricity needs. Not only can you save money on energy costs but often you can also get credit for feeding its excess solar power into the local electrical grid.

Nations Roof Addresses
Your Custom Needs

At Nations Roof, we believe there is no such thing as a "one-size-fits-all" solar energy system. What's right for another business may not be right for yours. We carefully assess your specific needs so our team of solar professionals can design, engineer, and build the most cost-effective solar power system that also provides maximum results for your company. And we make sure you can take full advantage of all of the financial incentives available to solar power users.

Nations Roof Offers Unique
Project Solutions

At Nations Roof, we develop economically viable roof-mounted and roof-integrated solar energy solutions for commercial and industrial structures, which integrate the proposed solar solution with the existing roofing environment. Our integrated turn-key approach is unique in many respects:

• Coordinated roofing/solar activities result in higher overall quality and accelerated project completion

• Roof and PV system warranties issued from the same contractor simplify any maintenance or warranty issues with a single point of contact

• Third-party financing options including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) address customers’ cash flow and return-on-investment requirements

• Rebate application support minimizes project’s administrative burden on customers

• Nations Roof's team of professionals have over thirty years of construction experience behind every installation which delivers peace of mind

• Nations Roof will team with approved Solar Integrators (if requested by customer)

THE BENEFITS OF PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY

Photovoltaic or Solar energy offers several distinct benefits over utility power and other forms of on-site electrical generation. An investment in a solar energy system delivers the following benefits:

• Solar is a fixed cost hedged against rising energy costs

• Solar provides a compelling return on investment of 15% or more in many cases

• Solar energy systems are highly reliable and have low maintenance costs

• Solar is the only 100% clean, completely silent energy generation technology

With solar, your company can buy 30 years of
clean energy for about the same cost
as 4 to 7 years' worth of utility energy.
It's that simple.

What Does "Photovoltaic"
Really Mean?

The term photovoltaic derives from the Greek word "phos" meaning light and the word "volt" named in honor of Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, known for his pioneering work in electricity during the 1800s – when he had developed the so-called voltaic pile, a forerunner of the electric battery, which produced a steady stream of electricity.

Photovoltaics is a process which focuses on the conversion of light to electricity, i.e., the conversion of photon energy to electric current. In other words, it stands for the conversion of sunlight to electricity.

PHOTOVOLTAIC ROOF APPLICATIONS

Roof-Integrated Systems

Nations Roof offers advanced expertise in the installation of functionally-optimized roof-integrated photovoltaic systems within commercial settings.

Advantages include:

• Coordinated roofing/solar activities result in high overall quality and
accelerated project completion

• No Roof Penetrations

• No Mechanical Fastening to Building

• Decreased Installation Costs

• Minimal Shadow

• Decreased Total Installed Weight (lbs/sq ft)

Rack-Mounted Systems

Nations Roof also develops roof- mounted solar projects using established rack and module technologies when this approach best suits our customers’ project objectives.

• Higher kWh production/watt
• Broad supply base
• Requires mounting structures
• Results in roof penetrations

TYPES OF
PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS

Thin-Film vs.
Traditional Solar Panels

The efficiency of solar cells can vary widely, from 6% for amorphous silicon-based solar cells, to 42.8% for non-commercial, multiple-junction research lab cells. The most common commercially available type of solar cell is the "Multicrystalline Si" which offers between 14-19% efficiency. While thin-film solar panels are catching up in efficiency, currently, they offer between 7-9% efficiency.

What are the Benefits of
Thin-Film Solar Panels?

Unlike their "thick-film" cousins, thin-film panels use much less raw material in manufacturing. Additionally thin-film cells can be manufactured in a large-area process. This process can be both continuous and automated. Another unique characteristic of thin-film panels is their ability to be deposited on flexible substrate materials. This means thin-film solar panels can be integrated into roofing tiles and other architectural products. Thin-film panels are also much lighter than traditional photovoltaics.
